Software
New releases of various software In a successive process extending to the end of this year, we are going to be making available the latest versions of the following software on our website: CAP 1131, TOP 1131, WDLD, MOS and User Library-T. It will be possible to download them from there. A description of the functions of the particular file is provided on the website.
Concerto® diagnostic tool Concerto® is a software package that assists the train and maintenance personnel in rectifying malfunctions and faults in the vehicle quickly and efficiently. The tool consists of two different software packages:
- The “Config” package: Package for configuring the entire diagnostic tool
- The “Maintenance” package: Package for straightforward evaluation of all collected diagnostic data for maintenance
The packages allow the following three main functions to be configured and evaluated:
- The event logger: This is used for recording various events (information, event or alarm). In addition, current process values can be recorded for each event that occurs.
- The process values: Straightforward observation of current values on the controller.
- The cyclic logger: Data recording is possible cyclically (in a fixed time interval) using channels that can be switched on or off. The volume of data is quite considerable, therefore the data can be read out and evaluated daily.

Applications/references
Modernization of the door control in RBS trains Be 4/8 “Mandarinli” The Be 4/8 urban light railway trains operated by RBS, which are also referred to as “Mandarinli”, have been in use since 1974/77 and are approaching the end of their useful life. Specifically, this affects trains nos. 41 to 61 with 4 doors per vehicle. The existing electronics can no longer be repaired and there are no diagnostic options. For this reason, RBS decided to instigate a refit last year. The replacement takes the form of the Selectron® MAS 72x-T controller family. Thanks to adaptations in the application software, this solution allows the controller to by optimally adapted to the existing door mechanism. During implementation, particular attention was paid to comfort, safety and the particular wishes of the motorman. The malfunction display and diagnostic options using the MMI 701-T terminal now permit any possible fault to be localized rapidly. Experience from the first tests of the new controller at RBS has been positive. The application software was written by RBS itself using the Symphony® project planning and programming tool. Selectron trained and assisted the workshop personnel in Worb, CH, for this purpose. This increases the flexibility, while subsequent adaptations or additions can be made by RBS maintenance personnel themselves at any time. RBS has decided to convert the entire “Mandarinli” fleet. In addition, the engineering work for converting the door control of the Tram 2000 fleet has also got underway.

National Daughters’ Day, November 8, 2007 Once again this year, Selectron gave the daughters of company employees the opportunity to accompany their father or mother to work on National Daughters’ Day, to find out what mummy or daddy actually does at work, what their workplace looks like and who their work colleagues are. All daughters aged between 7 and 15 can take part. National Daughters’ Day is intended to assist girls in building up a clear career concept and to promote a general debate on contemporary attitudes to work for girls and boys.
“What do you expect from your future job?” Girls and boys know the answer: Their job should be interesting, sensible and varied, and be in accordance with their skills. However, that is where the similarities end. Views regarding the career ladder are completely divergent. When selecting their training course, girls pay least attention to the career prospects offered by their choice of profession. Boys, on the other hand, focus on career opportunities, high income and the future of their profession.
By gaining an insight into the working lives of their parents, girls should be encouraged to think about what they expect for their future and pay corresponding attention to their choice of job.

Inclement weather in 2007
This year, Lyss was hit three times by storms occasioning flooding. Selectron was flooded twice – in June and August. On both occasions, the warehouse, the dispatch area and various laboratory and test rooms were under water. Thanks to the assistance of our employees who provided valuable assistance during both flooding events, it was possible to rescue large quantities of material and equipment. This meant we were capable of meeting our delivery obligations at all times. Unfortunately, one of Selectron’s suppliers in Lyss was also hit by the flooding, and as a result we received a certain number of items with a delay. This meant that we were unfortunately unable to deliver on the intended dates. We regret this greatly and would like to apologize to those customers who were affected by these problems. Selectron has completed some preventative measures during the past few weeks. We have made changes to the buildings with the objective of preventing water penetration into our buildings in future to the greatest possible extent.
