Selectron® CDT 731-TG module, basic module for a wheel slide protection system

At the InnoTrans 2008, TüV-Nord presented Selectron with the certificate for a module for controlling wheel slide protection valves acc. to EN 50128 SSAS2, EN 50129 SAS2, EN 61508 SIL3.

The CDT 731-TG module is divided into inputs for measuring the frequencies of the sensors and into safe outputs. A system is made up of a CPU 731-TG and the modules of the MAS 73x family, which means it can be adapted to an extremely wide range of requirements of additional inputs and outputs. This module functions as the spine for the entire wheel slide protection system. Flexible wheel slide protection systems can be designed for different numbers of axles by means of rotary encoders and wheel slide protection valves. Please request our handbook for detailed documentation.
Work by Selectron's engineers over many years has led not only to certification of the module but has also resulted in the entire development process for hardware and software being certified. Selectron will be using this expertise for additional product developments.

Our customers' successes with Selectron

Retrofit SBB multiplex push-pull train type MPZ-ZTBE
With an operating time of about 30 years, railcars and driving trailers of the NPZ (local transport push-pull trains) have only reached half of their expected lifetime. Nevertheless, after this time in service the vehicles no longer meet the requirements of today's passengers. Passenger's expectations for safety, information and comfort have changed. Air-conditioned vehicles, information about the next stop as well as connection information are also expected, as are modern standards of comfort: sockets at the seats, multifunction compartments as well as design suitable for disabled passengers.
To meet these requirements, it is essential for more data to be transferred at the vehicle and train level.
The current type of NPZ motor coach trains are equipped with conventional multiple unit control cables. These do not offer sufficient capacity for the new functions, therefore SBB decided to install the necessary CAN-Powerline train bus system from Selectron.
As part of the DOMINO project – complete renovation of railcars and driving trailers with new low-floor intermediate cars – Selectron has received the sub-order to implement the TTBE (train and traction bus electronics) for 125 main push-pull trains (railcars and driving trailers).

An MPZ main push-pull train can consist of a minimum of 2 vehicles (driving trailer and railcar) and a maximum of 6 vehicles (1 driving trailer, 1 railcar and 4 intermediate cars).

The order placed with Selectron for this sub-project includes the following tasks:

  • Engineering (specifications, software, tests) for the TTBE (train and traction bus electronics)
  • Vehicle and train bus with TBC (Train Bus Coupler) for train setup
  • Modern parked position
  • Onboard diagnosis on the vehicle with the CPU727-DT module. Displays fault information for the train driver and train crew and makes it possible to respond specifically to any faults.
  • Maintenance and servicing with the Concerto® software tool assists the train and maintenance personnel in rectifying malfunctions and faults in the vehicle quickly and efficiently.
  • Support for startup and acceptance tests reduces the project lifecycle at the customer
  • Project duration: Start May 2007 with the engineering of the first vehicle. Entering service from 2009. End of the project set for 2012.

Personnel

The customer support & training team – your contacts for support questions and training

 Bild7

Werner Hunziker (technical documentation), Markus Wingeier, Florian Chervaz (team leader), Patrik Roth. Not on the photo: Beat Knuchel; he will be joining the team in January 09 – after a sabbatical in Australia to improve his linguistic skills.

The employees in the Customer Support & Training department provide you with expert and motivated support in German, English, French and Spanish, and are also available for training your staff whether at your premises or at ours in Lyss. All employees in the department have been trained as engineers and possess broad knowledge of Selectron products and their applications.
With an average age of 27 years, the team is also one of the youngest at Selectron. Working in Support & Training represents an ideal way for university graduates to enter the company. Following 2 – 3 years of professional experience, they can then look forward to taking further steps up the career ladder in our company.
Werner Hunziker, responsible for technical documentation, is always concerned to incorporate suggestions, feedback, ideas and advice into the documentation so it will meet our customers' requirements.

Reinforcement in the R&D area
In September, we welcomed a new employee who is taking over management of the "Software Development Tools" team. He is a trained engineer from the IT department of the EPFL (Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne) and has many years of experience as a developer in embedded systems (hardware and software) and communication technology (Ethernet, wireless LAN, Bluetooth) as an R&D manager and in charge of complex international projects in industry.

InnoTrans 2008 feedback

Selectron in a new Hall … but you found the way to our booth!

It has been a great pleasure to enjoy your visits and to answer your questions about our solutions of today, as well as about the projects we have for the future.
It is always a dilemma for us to provide you with information about our future offer, which enables you to structure your next generation of trains or prepare for some enhancements to your development processes, without raising expectations for products and SW tools which are not yet completely tested.
We decided to go for this open view on the future in order to secure a better fit to your needs.
I’m confident that it is to our mutual benefit, and the interest you’ve shown during this fair is already a great reward for us.
Thank you very much for this partnership and entrepreneurial attitude!
