Dear customer,
We are pleased to present you with this first edition of our Selectron Newsletter in 2010. We hope that these selected reports will provide you with some interesting news from our company. We hope you find this a pleasant and enjoyable read!
Selectron Systems AG
Selectron has been independent since 21 July 2009. We have also now separated our IT system from Schneider Electric. This means that support and deliveries are organized directly through Selectron, with only a few exceptions. Our first experience shows that this new organization is enabling us to meet the wishes and requirements of our customers and partners even more effectively.
We achieved growth in the railway sector of 8% in 2009, thereby allowing us to cushion the decline in industrial activity occasioned by the credit crunch and economic crisis. The fact that we have posted positive financial results for our first year of independence allows our customers to be even more confident in us, as well as boosting the confidence of investors and banks. We wish to thank all our staff whose professionalism and commitment made it possible to achieve this result in these turbulent times.
New solutions
Gateway CAN RS422/485 High-performance module for expanding serial interfaces in the control system.
Selectron is presenting a new, flexible and high-performance module (CRS 731-TM) for connecting serial third-party units into the control system. It can be used in rail vehicles such as regional railcars, locomotives, passenger rolling stock, trams, metros, construction vehicles, etc. The module offers the opportunity of simulating transparent, proprietary protocols, and is therefore ideal for integrating individual special modules within a modern control system.
The CAN/RS485/422 gateway supports all the usual baud rates. On the CAN side, these range from 20 kbits/s to 1Mbit/s, and from 1200 baud – 115.2 kbaud on the RS485/422 side. The gateway can be autonomously connected to any point in a CAN network.
Both the exchange of user data and configuration of the module are handled using blocks in the Selectron CAP 1131 software. This means that seamless integration is guaranteed from the standpoint of the software as well.
What is more, a separate and specially coded address plug makes it possible to exchange a module without the need for using software.

The new displays will be available from the 2nd quarter of 2010. The Selectron concept does not just include the devices themselves, but also their extensive integration into Selectron programming and configuration tools. The work of the system integrator is thus significantly simplified. The communication interfaces between the diagnostic CPU and display are implemented using a Modbus protocol via RS 485/422/232 and Ethernet (CANopen under preparation). There is no need for any complicated adaptation to the communication interfaces.
The HMI editor of the Maestro Pro® graphical development tool simplifies the task of creating screens. The application can be created on a computer irrespective of the display, and then transferred to the display in a finished and tested format. Basic graphical elements such as speedometer, bar charts, etc. are stored in a library and can be adapted further by the user. The Concerto® diagnostic tool supplements the range of application possibilities for the display, giving comprehensive vehicle diagnosis. Malfunctions and faults in the vehicle are quickly detected and can be efficiently rectified.

Thanks to the pleasing results achieved in 2009, we reached a decision together with our investors and partners that even more funds should be invested in product development and solution packages in 2010. We are currently looking for additional employees to perform this work.

Sele ski weekend 2010

Perfect piste and snow conditions |
Up out of the mist, up to 2433 meters of altitude where we were welcomed by magnificent sunshine and perfect piste conditions. That was the start for a legendary Sele ski weekend. The accommodation was located right on the piste, therefore the participants had to carry their own luggage and all essential provisions - such as the outstanding Meiringer fondue and the fruit of the grape from Valais. Immediately after stowing away their luggage and provisions in the hut, the perfectly prepared edges of the skis and snowboards were already cutting into the pistes as the 17 participants left their mark on the Hasliberg snows. The group got together for the obligatory après-ski session only at the end of an intensive day of skiing, at the Käserstatt mountain station. Aperitifs were followed by a lavish evening meal and dessert, after which the group enjoyed games, laughter and swapped all kinds of stories from the annals of Selectron. Sooner or later, the members of the party hit the sack in order to recover for the next day's challenges. This year, breakfast did not feature the traditional sliced cheese, because the cheese slicer refused to be found. In spite of this setback, the group nevertheless enjoyed a hearty breakfast. Thus fortified, everyone embarked on the second day under what were once again excellent conditions, allowing the group to make full use of their ski passes. This year too, the Sele ski weekend was another accident-free and highly enjoyable event thanks to the perfect conditions in the skiing area and the excellent organization provided.
