Selectron Holding SA

New solutions
CPU 831-TG with L-bus - High-performance vehicle control unit with a wide range of interfaces The new CPU 831-TG has been in successful use for some time now. To date, however, the lack of an expansion bus for 3 communication modules has been a disadvantage. Now, Selectron is supplying the new, flexible, high-performance vehicle controller (CPU 831-TG) with a full range of functions. This provides an additional, wide range of networking options for the user. The applications include rail vehicles such as regional railcars, locomotives, passenger rolling stock, trams, metros, construction vehicles, etc. The module is also designed for controlling very complex, multi-unit rail vehicle units as well as high-speed trains.
System concept of CPU 831-Tx controller | The control system can be used in both centralised and distributed system concepts. The CPU itself is equipped with Ethernet, 2xCAN, RS 422/485/232 as well as SD memory card, which means it can also be used as a "stand alone" head station. The generous memory expansion enables applications as a diagnostic unit as well. A wide variety of signal conditioning modules such as digital inputs/outputs, pulse-width processing, relays, counters, 24/36 VDC and 72/110 VDC signal voltages can be connected via a central expansion bus (C-bus). With central expansion, it is possible to operate up to 384 I/O points. In a distributed system, up to 12,288 I/O points (32x384) can be managed within a CAN network.
The new, high-performance communication expansion bus (L-Bus) that is now available can be used for connecting up to 3 CAN communication modules with different protocols such as CANopen or J1939. Other communication modules are under preparation.
As you would expect, the entire control system can be operated using the established, convenient and efficient Symphony® programming, configuration and diagnostic tool from Selectron.
Car transition with Ethernet The comfort, safety, availability, diagnosis, communication, efficiency and expanded functions that are needed and offered in modern rail vehicles, require ever-increasing data volumes as well as high data rates. Vehicle manufacturers are being forced to take account of this. Selectron offers a solution with a data rate of up to 1 gigabit/s here. Nowadays, fibre optic solutions are used in order to provide sustained coverage for the new need for data bandwidth. As well as the lack of sensitivity to electromagnetic fields, the light weight and compact size of fiber optic systems represent a decisive advantage. Fiber optics are ideal for setting up a consistent, high-performance network in rail vehicles.
As well as high-performance switches (ESM 80x-TG), Selectron also offers access to an ingeniously designed plug connection system for the car transition of an Ethernet train backbone system.
Car transition with Ethernet (model) | The solution offered guarantees a continuous data transfer under harsh ambient conditions. This applies to permanently installed as well as manually connected applications such as disconnecting the car for service applications in the depot. The products tailored to customers' requirements are produced for the rail industry in accordance with international standards.

New train bus features with CPL train bus coupler (CAN-Powerline) The "TBC 702 CAN-Powerline" train bus coupler will certainly be familiar to those with long-term and detailed knowledge of Selectron products, indeed several thousand of the train bus coupler products have become established in the market. The coupler automatically carries out the assembly of train compositions and is priced to represent an interesting alternative to the WTB (Wire Train Bus) train bus couplers available in the market.
The main application for the new concept involves coupling rail vehicles into what are referred to as "closed" rail systems, in other words where there is no requirement for vehicles from different manufacturers to be coupled together. Typical applications are regional trains, metro systems, trams, mountain railways, etc. To date, one of the main differences between CAN-Powerline and WTB has been the different extent of the network. The former CAN-Powerline solution had its length limited to 200 m, depending on the baud rate. This restriction is swept away with the new CPL 731-TG device. Networks of more than 300 m in length can be implemented without problems. The number of network stations has been significantly increased up to 32. At the same time, a redundant system configuration is possible and the changeover to the redundant device take place without interruption.
New CPL 731-TG train bus coupler |
As a new feature, it is also possible to perform the train setup, i.e. the automatic train composition, in both directions. For the system engineer, this means the train setup can also be implemented from an intermediate car. What is more, the CPL 731-TG is compatible with the former TBC 702-T.
CPL 731-TG train bus coupler system concept
| The design as an expansion module is implemented in a space-saving way according to the MAS 73x shape factor. A CPU 731-TG or CPU 831-TG is employed for flexible use, depending on the performance required. This new device is a further innovative milestone in Selectron's flexible and open train control and monitoring concept. It eliminates the slight weaknesses of the TBC 702-T and very nearly matches the performance of the WTB concept, which has a much higher price tag. The module will be available from August onwards.
