For one and a half years now, the Knorr-Bremse Rail Division has been operating a Center of Competence at Selectron for the cybersecurity of its controllers, many variants of which are used in trains. So, it is high time for a short review of what has been achieved and a look at the future goals.
Reliable and efficient processes form the basis for product developments. The same goes for cybersecurity. By implementing the Security Development Lifecycle, Selectron is laying the foundation for Security by Design.
The Bolivian railway operator FCA (Empresa Ferroviaria Andina S.A.) is now benefitting from ultra-lightweight, high-power locomotives with reduced fuel consumption, performing with Selectron TCMS.
At the beginning of June, the development documents of the new SCPU 941-TW controller were handed over to the TÜV experts for SIL 2 certification.
This closes another chapter in the development of our new generation of controllers.
But the journey is just beginning!
Selectron's Smartio® product family is now becoming even smarter. Decentralized functions on MAS 3xx extension modules allow better performance at lower costs. As a first step, the two modules SWSP 301-TF (part of the WSP3 wheel slide protection system) and SBCC 301-TF (pilot pressure regulator) will be available in 2021.
Selectron is qualifying all devices according to the current EN 50155:2017. All necessary adaptations and environmental measurements are being undertaken so that we can always offer our customers devices in line with the current standard.
The latest version of the MOS83x operating system for the SIL 2 controller platform is now available.
2020 is once again the year of InnoTrans. Selectron is also taking part once again. Of course, we are not allowed to tell you yet what our booth will look like. We can reveal one thing, though: This year, we will be represented for the first time with our parent company Knorr-Bremse in Hall 1.2 (Railway Technology segment), booth 250.
Selectron is continuing to drive innovations forward in house. The market launch of our new CPU 94x controller generation is imminent – the first pilot projects will be started soon. The expansion of the new control system with a SIL 4 computer is also taking rapid strides forward. We are also working on making the TCMS cyber-secure.
Every year, Selectron visits numerous railway trade shows all over the world. At the end of 2019, we presented ourselves at several trade fairs in the Asian region – including Modern Railways in Beijing, Mass-Trans Innovation Japan (MTIJ) in Tokyo and the second Zhejiang International Intelligent Transportation Industry Expo & The Future Transportation Conference in Hangzhou, China.
A few display characters are often sufficient for a simple display of current status messages. The HMI 301-TW line display offers exactly this functionality.

It is impossible to imagine today's world without constant online availability – whether in private or industrial environments. The wireless modules of the EWM 90x-TW family offer a wireless connection in various application areas, enabling permanent online connectivity.
Now we can get going: Certification of the new MOS83x V750 operating system, including the SIL 2 certified analog input module AIT 735-T/I/SIL, has been completed. This means that nothing stands in the way of using the analog module for safety-related applications.
The topic of cybersecurity is becoming increasingly important for Selectron – in addition to ensuring the safety of its products, the company must also protect them against cyber attacks.

Selectron will record another record year.
